Ocean Acidification observations in the Western Indian Ocean

Duration: March 2019 – December 2021

Description: This project aims at measuring the rate of Ocean Acidification (OA) and changes in marine carbonate chemistry in Seychelles and to expand our observations to the WIO region in collaboration with our partners. Another goal of this project is to test the effects of climate change on relevant marine organisms in multi-stressor scenarii. Through this proposal we propose to build BERI’s and UniSey’s capacity to monitor, understand and report on the ongoing impacts of Ocean Acidification.

Funding body: WIOMSA

Partners: University of Mauritius (UoM), Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI), Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute at Mombasa (KMFRI), Universidade Eduardo Mondlane at Maputo (UEM, Mozambique), Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute in Dar Es Salaam (TAFIRI), Oceanographic Research Institute at Durban (ORI, South Africa).
